By the job

On your feet

For nurses, cooks, flooring crews and anyone who spends a shift on a hard floor.

A shift on your feet puts the work in the calves, the arches and the hips. This session starts at the ground and works up: calves, the backs of the knees, the arches and the feet, then the hips if you want them. One leg is uncovered at a time.

  • Legs and feet, 45 minutes

  • A longer session adds the hips and low back

  • Either therapist; Dixie takes most standing days

What happens

In the room

  1. 01

Step 1: We ask about your shift

How long you stand, what is on your feet and where the day lands in your body.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Face up, covered

A sheet over you, one leg uncovered at a time. We work the calves and the backs of the knees.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Arches and feet

Slow work through the arches and the toes, at the pressure you pick.

  4. 04

Step 4: Face down, if you like

The backs of the legs and the hips through the sheet, then a minute to sit up.

Good to know

Pressure, cover and what to wear

  • Pressure

Most people on their feet ask for firm calves and lighter feet. Say what you want, and say it again if it changes.

  • Covered

You are under a sheet or towel the whole time. Only the part we are working on is uncovered.

  • What to wear

Come as you are. Boots off at the door, socks too. Shorts or underwear are fine; we work around whatever you keep on.

  • Ask your doctor first

If you are pregnant, or have had surgery or an injury lately, ask your doctor before you book.

Dixie opened the studio above the hardware store so people who work with their hands and feet could book a session before a shift or after one. She takes first-time clients, the long days on hard floors and the days at a keyboard. Her pressure is steady, and she asks before she changes it. She speaks English.

Questions about this session

Do I need to shower first?

No. Come from work as you are. We use fresh sheets for every client.

Can I book this for after a double shift?

Yes. Evening times run until 7:30, Monday to Thursday. Book the 45-minute session and ask for extra minutes on the day if the next appointment allows.

Which therapist should I book?

Either. Dixie takes most standing-day sessions, and Donnie does the firmer work if you want it.

Book legs and feet.
